About CF
The Route.

The journey will take the intrepid travellers to Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar (Burma), India, Nepal, Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Greece, Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, France the UK and back to Ireland. Alternative contingency routes have also been planned. A map of the actual route can be seen in the En Route section.
While a number of countries have not yet established associations, the team will be visiting the national CF Associations of Australia, Greece, Montenegro (where a new clinic has just been completed) and Ireland. The highlights are as follows:

1. Melbourne: Departure Fundraising Ball (Friday 7th March). This Grand Prix Extravaganza has a Brazilian theme that will feature Brazilian music and dancers throughout the night, including a thirty-piece band.

2. Melbourne: Drive for Life collection teams will raise money during the Grand Prix weekend. The Drive for Life team will depart Melbourne on the 11th March 2003.

3. Nepal: Here the Drive for Life team will meet David Crowley, (father of the three brothers) and Conor Crowley (the fourth Crowley brother), Pat and Des Ryan, for a two-week mountain trek, with the aim of reaching the Mt. Everest base camp, a staggering 5,500m above sea level. Each participant will have raised funds in their own way on behalf of Drive for Life. A Poc Fáda competition will be held at base camp the day after our arrival there. The Drive for Life team will leave Kathmandu to continue their overland journey while the rest of the group will fly back to Dublin.

4. Pakistan: A visit to the Peshawar Medical Research Centre (Peshawar) where important research into CF is being undertaken. The political situation at the time will dictate whether or not the team will be travelling through Pakistan. A viable alternative is to take a ferry from India to Iran and so avoid going through Pakistan completely.

5. Greece: Mt. Olympus sponsored 2-day climb with the local Hellenic CF Association (time permitting).

6. Montenegro: A visit to the new CF clinic that the Association had been fighting to have built for ten years (time permitting).

7. Dublin: The Drive for Life team aim to arrive home on the 12th July 2003. A homecoming ball will be held at the Leopardstown Pavilion on the 27th September 2003.
