| Car ferry
services are available on all sea crossings with the exception of the Darwin
(Australia) to Jakarta (Indonesia) leg. For this leg of the journey freight
passage for the vehicle is necessary. In total there are only four ferry
crossings anticipated: one from Darwin to Jakarta, two in Indonesia and one
from Holyhead to Dun Laoghaire. |
| A Carnets de
Passage is like a passport for a car. Essentially it is a booklet that is
stamped on arrival in and departure from a country to ensure that you export
the vehicle again after you have imported it. All countries en route have
signed up to the international Carnet program with the exception of Myanmar
(Burma). To enable safe car passage through Myanmar (Burma) a special permit is
required which has been applied for through the embassy in Melbourne.

| The team has
written to the Irish Embassies in each country en route explaining the journey
and its purpose and have asked for a letter of introduction in the local
language, which can be shown at border crossings. Darragh will also have with
him a letter from his consultant explaining his condition and the need for the
medicines and machines he will be carrying. |
| With the help
of Toyota and DHL the team anticipates that they will not be more than 48 hours
from any required spares. Cian Crowley is receiving mechanical training from
Toyota and Shane Crowley is undertaking a first aid course that may prove to be
useful en route. |
